When you purchase rubber dumbbells, they are coated with silicone and placed in plastic bags. Once you remove the plastic, the dumbbell begins to breath and the natural oils from the rubber will start to surface. This is common with ALL rubber product. It will continue release the natural oils until it is climatized to the environment. These are natural rubber with no recycled component in them so it is not releasing harmful toxins as would happen with recycled product. These are not "cheap rubber", quite the contrary, but this is the natural neutralizing process of the material.

The black handles represent virgin rubber and no recycled material. We do not carry recycled rubber dumbbells having chrome handles as a regular stocked item.
