Have you ever used medicine balls before?
Did you know they were first recorded in use 3000 years ago? Originally made of animal bladders filled with sand, wrestlers in Persia used them for strength training.
What we typically see today as medicine balls, including wall balls and the related slam balls, are made of synthetics. Wall balls are typically larger in diameter and made of stitched materials, whereas slam balls tend to be a bit smaller and of a reinforced rubber construction for resistance to the slamming.
Medicine balls can be beneficial to increased total body strength and core conditioning via throws, slams, carries and rotational movements. Most muscle groups are activated in the wall ball throw, whether vertical or rotational; in the floor slam, whether vertical or rotational; and typically you get more engagement of the limbs during core exercises with Med/Slam balls, due to the demands of holding on.
We have a wide variety of each, in a range of weights and sizes.
