Working on your resolutions? Be SMART!

Working on your resolutions? Be SMART!

Many of us get caught up in the NEW YEAR, NEW ME siren call and also feel the January 1st "newness" madness.

If you're looking to begin some new habits, and maybe make better
(healthier) life choices, here are some tips to help you succeed:

Above everything Start BEFORE the "New Year, New Beginning" stereotype. JUST START!!

THEN, set SMART goals - set goals that are Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Realistic, and Time-bound.

- Choose a SPECIFIC goal - Instead of a vague goal like "get in shape", pick something more concrete. Faster 5km, lose 10lbs, add 15kg to deadlift.

- MEASURE your progress - Keep track of your actions to stay motivated. For example, you could keep a training journal, or use a food tracker app.

- Set ACHIEVEABLE goals - Make sure your goals are doable, and start at your current level (not based on older ideals or baselines)

 - Be REASONABLE - Unrealistic goals can be depressing and lead to you giving up on your resolution.

- Give yourself a TIMELINE - goals without a deadline have no accountability and no urgency. So they often won't stick.

Beyond That:
1 - Focus on your daily habits rather than the end-result.

2 - Find an accountability buddy or join a group - The accountability of a group can help you stay on track.

3 - If affordable, hire a trainer or coach. OR if more feasible sign into an App (like iFitX, which has hundreds of workouts with trained coaches)

4 - Celebrate your small successes - Record them AND reward yourself. New shoes, new workout kit, new fitness toys (gear / equipment).

5 - Whatever your goals may be, BELIEVE You can do it!!
