Hello KrisThank you for your question. Our Element Fitness Resistance bands are great for toning specific areas of the body. I would recommend if you do not currently exercise to start of with a lower resistance level. Increasing the resistance can be done by increasing the stretch tension done by doubling the band. A light band does provide good resistance without putting too much strain on your joints if you are a beginner. Hi,Thank you for your inquiry into our bands. Unfortunately, they do vary in tension depending on how they are used and how much they are stretched. We do not have exact weight ratings per band but they are available to try out in our stores.Hope this helps
